  3. Propelled to No. 1 in the charts by a high profile publicity drive and a sublime Top 10 hit, It’s Written In The Stars, Illumination was released to positive reviews. Production sidekick Brendan Lynch was absent. In his place was Simon Dine, whose Self Assembly album (as musical alter ego Noonday Underground) had impressed Weller.

  5. This self-titled album saw a return to a more jazz-guitar-focused sound, featuring samples and a funk influence with shades of the Style Council sound. The album also featured a new producer, Brendan Lynch. Tracks such as "Here's a New Thing" and "That Spiritual Feeling" were marketed among the emerging acid jazz scene.

  8. Rory Joscelyne My favourite of The Midnight's albums so far, the sombre tone and humid summer nights' thoughts it inspires (and was clearly inspired by) hold so much meaning and depth. The lyrics are more poetry than most bands of this genre. As a massive sucker for a saxophone, this album has some of the best sax hooks The Midnight have produced, and I cannot recommend this album .
